Hevizi Gyogyto (the Curative Lake of Heviz) is the largest biologically active, natural, peat-mud thermal lake of volcanic origin in the world.
This uniquely famous spa is located only 6 kilometers from Balaton and 190 from Budapest. The lake of curative effect is 4.4 hectares in size and 38 meters in spring depth, is fed by two springs rich in minerals. Thanks to their plentiful water output of which - 410 litres per second - the water is completely replaced every second or third day. Through a close to 10metre channel at its southern end, the oval shaped lake, via Zala River, flows into Lake Balaton. The water temperature of the lake,containing slight radon emanation - which is heated by geothermic energy - does not drop under 22 celsius in the wintertime, and reaches 38 celsius in the summertime. So you can enjoy the healthy advantages of the spa, even when the snow falling around you. The average 30.7 Celsius water temperature does not affect the heat-system of the human body but makes the patient relaxed and fresh. The warmth of the water as well as its therapeutic effect is guarded from the harmful effects of the exterior environment (wind, dust) and those of "civilisation" by a 33.9-hectare protected forest.
